North Central Development Commission Strengthens Partnership with Innovative Biotech on Vaccine Deployment and Local Manufacturing

The North Central Development Commission (NCDC) has taken a major step toward advancing public health security across the North Central region through a strategic partnership with Innovative Biotech Ltd, Nigeria’s leading biotechnology company specializing in vaccine research, development, and manufacturing.

In a high-level meeting held in Abuja, the Managing Director of the Commission, Dr. Cyril Tsenyil, received Dr. Simon Agwale, Chief Executive Officer of Innovative Biotech, and his team to discuss collaborative efforts aimed at improving vaccine access and supporting the Federal Government’s drive toward local vaccine production.

The meeting centered on the deployment of critical vaccines, including Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV) and Cholera vaccines, among others, to address persistent public health challenges within the region. Both parties emphasized the need to accelerate vaccine delivery to underserved communities, particularly in states most affected by preventable diseases.

The Commission expressed its commitment to supporting Innovative Biotech’s first-in-class, end-to-end vaccine manufacturing facility, which is set to become the first of its kind in Nigeria. The facility will enable local production — from research and development to large-scale manufacturing — thereby reducing import dependence and ensuring affordable, timely access to quality vaccines.

Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Cyril Tsenyil, Managing Director of the Commission, reaffirmed the NCDC’s readiness to partner with the private sector in advancing the region’s healthcare capacity.

“Our collaboration with Innovative Biotech is a concrete step toward achieving health equity and vaccine self-sufficiency for the North Central region. This partnership aligns with the Federal Government’s policy to prioritize local production of essential health products,” he stated.

In his remarks, Dr. Simon Agwale, CEO of Innovative Biotech, commended the Commission for its proactive engagement and commitment to improving public health outcomes.

“This partnership with the NCDC marks a significant milestone in ensuring that communities across the North Central region have equitable access to vaccines produced locally in Nigeria,” Dr. Agwale said.

Both institutions agreed to establish a technical working group to fast-track implementation plans, focusing on vaccine deployment logistics, awareness campaigns, and regional capacity building programs.

This initiative underscores the Commission’s vision to promote inclusive development, strengthen healthcare delivery, and support Nigeria’s journey toward vaccine independence.
